Tai Chi classes are best taken by individuals that can understand themselves or at least want to learn to understand themselves on a deeper, gentle and subtle level, by all means this does not mean being soft or weak, on the contrary it can be difficult and one must be patient and strong to adhere to the rigorous internal training one will endure for learning the real authentic Tai Chi. The mind and body is required to work in unison and released from tension and stresses that will only hinder your Tai Chi skills if you do not work hard to eliminate the causes of ones stress and tensions. In saying this, on the other hand you will learn step by step and slowly adapt to the subtle changes you require to progress and be successful in learning Tai Chi.  This is why we say you need to be at least 15 years or older however, its not so much the age but the maturity of the individual that will make a good student for Tai Chi. As the teacher and instructor of our Tai Chi classes, I will make sure we can guide you all the way and make your journey as safe and comfortable as possible in becoming a proficient Tai Chi practitioner.

TAI CHI for HEALTH and MEDITATION

Tai Chi for health a wonderful form of holistic exercise, a moving meditation that encompasses the ability to learn how to balance both your Yin and Yang energies.  Learn how to regulate your mind and body through the principles and concepts of Tai Chi. Tai Chi embraces the philosophy of the Tao and utilises the principle of Wu Wei, creating spontaneous action from no action and adhering to the natural, gentle and yielding ways.

As a distinct opposite but complimentary to our western physical exercises and other forms of meditation, Tai Chi utilises its unique philosophical concept of Yin and Yang to achieve a harmonious balance in life and a mind and body unification that enhances peace and tranquillity.

TAI CHI FOR SELF-DEFENCE

Tai Chi Chuan - The Grand Ultimate Fist for self-defence is the jewel of martial arts, it encompasses the essence of all martial art movements in all styles because the focus is on the cultivation of the internal energy and the receptive, subtle qualities of the individual and not the external physical brut force.  Strength is developed through cultivating and refining the Earth energy (Yin Chi) and emptying the body of physical force, therefore an empty force (Yang Chi) arises and is enhanced and utilised in a formless body able to adapt and change to unlimited shapes with unlimited movements, hence the adaptation to all martial art styles.  This limitless energy is the energy of the universe and is where Yin and Yang energy spring from and come back to rest in an endless process, this limitless energy is called "Wu Chi".  Stillness remains in movement and movement is constant within stillness, hence the famous Tai Chi saying, the beginning is the end and the end is the beginning.

What does this all mean? It means that when you learn Tai Chi you can understand and adhere to any style or system including other styles of Tai Chi, in other words you are learning all types of martial arts through the principles of Tai Chi.

How can this help ones martial arts? Well firstly, if you cannot adhere to a specific style because it is different then you are subject to being outwitted, overpowered and possibly out skilled. So Tai Chi will help you understand and respond appropriately according to any style or even any unorthodox methods of an opponent attacks, it will teach you how to stick to and firstly harmonise with your adversary and then neutralise their force rendering them powerless before you counter a telling move catching them completely of guard that either unbalances them, opens them up or shuts them down as quick as they have attacked you or even thought of attacking you.  Now this is just one martial arts benefit of Tai Chi, there are many more benefits and not to mention, we cannot forget that Self-defence, Health and Meditation are inseparable in Tai Chi lending to many holistic benefits as well.
